The BRAVO music program is back this year!  This program offers Music Appreciation to all of our students by introducing them to a variety of composers throughout the year.                             

The Kindergarten curriculum, Some of My Favorite Things, includes the music of Georges Bizet, Johan Sebastian Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, Modest Mussorgsky, Dmitri Kabalevsky, John Philip Sousa and Wynn-Ann Rossi.  The program is designed for kindergartners to introduce them to the classics in a fun and engaging way.

This year’s program for 1st through 6th graders is called Voices of Instruments and introduces students to all the instruments of the orchestra:  Brass, Strings, Keyboard, Woodwinds, Percussion and Voice.  The lessons include many composers from J.S. Bach and Tchaikovsky to Yo Yo Ma and Bobby McFerrin.

The BRAVO program is run by volunteers in the classroom.  If you enjoy Music and children, then BRAVO is for you!!  A musical background is NOT required!  Many people have taught who have never played an instrument or studied music.  There are six (6) lessons for the school year, so you will be in the classroom 6 times.  You arrange those times based on your schedule and the teacher’s schedule.  All of the training and supplies are provided, including study guides, materials for the classroom and a lesson plan!  One or two volunteers are needed per class.  If two people sign up, they can split the lessons.

Training is provided, although the dates have yet to be determined.  The training is helpful, but if you cannot make it, you can still volunteer.  The handbook that is provided includes the lesson plans and ideas for the presentation.
