Yolo Federal Credit Union and the Birch Lane PTA are teaming up to offer a new student banking program at our school.
FAQ
What is the Save at School program? The Save at School program offers students who enroll their very own savings account, for free, at Yolo Federal Credit Union. PTA volunteers and Yolo FCU representatives will set up a “mini bank” in the staff room on Friday mornings, so students can deposit to their accounts at school every week. The program is open to all Birch Lane first through sixth grade students. Why enroll? Learning to save at young age is a very valuable life skill that will help kids prepare for a financially healthy future. Participating students learn: 1) to save routinely 2) discipline to save rather than spend 3) money management
How does a student enroll? An informational brochure and enrollment forms were sent home with students. Student along with their parent or guardian should fill out the forms and return them to the “mini-bank” on any Friday to enroll. Once the student is enrolled they can start depositing into their account the following week. Click on these links to view the enrollment forms: App Pg1.pdf | App Pg2.pdf
What if the student already has a savings account somewhere else? YFCU makes it easy for students who have accounts with another bank to transfer their funds to YoloFedCU with a simple form, turned in with enrollment. Click on this link to view the transfer request form: Switch Form.pdf
When can the student bank? The “Mini Bank” is open for deposits Friday mornings in the Staff Room (Room 6) from 8:40-10:10 AM.
How much does it cost? What is the minimum deposit? Children are opening youth savings accounts at Yolo Federal Credit Union: there are no fees until the child turns 23. Minimum deposit is one penny.
Are there prizes? Students will receive a prize for every other deposit to encourage savings habits. YFCU will supply the prizes at no cost to Birch Lane. YFCU holds a monthly raffle for a $15 prize for each youth deposit over $1; our bankers will also participate in this raffle.
