This is the major fundraiser for the year for our wonderful PTA, and typically brings nearly every family to our campus along with friends and neighbors. Between the carnival, silent auction and the raffle, plus free entertainment all afternoon, including my personal favorite, the UCD Band-Uh, there is something for everyone. Thank You from the Ice Cream Social Committee
Thanks to everyone who braved the chilly weather to buy ice cream at the recent Birch Lane Open House Ice Cream Social Fundraiser! We'd like to extend a special thanks to our student volunteers and parents who helped us set up and sell ice cream to over 650 ice cream enthusiasts! We'd also like to thank Stacey Winton for her assistance. Thanks!

From the Scan and Notify Corner
The weather is warming up and it is time to get the bikes ready, if your student(s) is not already biking and scanning every school day. May is Bike Month (actually every month is bike month in my calendar).
To get ready for the Biking:
We had a successful Bike Rodeo after school on Wednesday, April 18. More than 80 students participated and received bike check-ups, tires pumped up, helmet fitting, skills course and learned to signal the rules of the road. Bike licenses were given to all the students that completed the stations.
The event would not have been possible without the help of wonderful BL parents and helpers. Thanks to: Beth Bourne, Steve Faith, Jim & Sanne Fettinger, Jacqui LaValle, Kelly Macy, Deborah Rains and Mrs. Saechow. Also to: Jim Watson that planned the rodeo skill course, lay-out and orchestrated the event. Christal Waters from Davis Bicycles, Tim Starback co-founder of Saveagallon.org, Kathy Coulter from MIBM, Allan from Ken's Bike and Ski, Jim W. from Davis Bike Clb, Darin Wick from Davis Bike Collective, Rachel Hartsough of the City of Davis Safe Routes to School coordinator and D. Kemp the City of Davis Bike Coordinator.
Thank you for the yummy treats that were brought from parents for after the rodeo for the scan and notify students - Beth Bourne, Steve Faith, Sanne Fettinger, Kelly Macy, Diane Rubin, Julia Seeback and Kim Woodland.
Thank you to all the BL teachers for encouraging their students to attend the rodeo and informing parents via newsletters etc.
Upcoming Events
May 6th - Davis Bicycles! presents Bike Loopalooza 10:00-3:00. Activities and games for the family, bike safety checks, helmet checks and more. BL will have a station.
May 9th - The first National Bike to School Day-Bike activities planned for after school including a bike blender party serving frozen drinks. DK the City of Davis Bike Coordinator will be on site to help us celebrate! More information to come.
Thank you, Sanne

Montessori News
The Montessori Parent Advisory Committee elected its 2012-2013 board last week. Congratulations and thank you to: Nicki Guistino (President), Lisa Wright (Vice President), Beth Bourne (Secretary), Julia Huddleson (Treasurer), Matt Guilfoil (Communications/Outreach). Thank you, also, to outgoing board members Lisa Dock and Katherine Heck, who have both been very committed MPAC volunteers for years.
In lieu of our May meeting, MPAC invites all Montessori families and teachers to meet at Davis Farmers Market on Wednesday, May 16, so please save the date. We'll identify a specific meeting location and time closer to the date. As the school year starts to wind down, the MPAC board hopes this will be a fun chance for our Birch Lane Montessori community to get together!
